Celebrating Lunar New Year In Ku-ring-gai

Lunar New Year is officially upon us with the month of February dedicated to celebrating the Year of the Tiger in 2022.

While each family celebrates Chinese New Year in their own way including acts of generosity and various rituals that will invoke prosperity and good luck for the year ahead, the Ku-ring-gai council is also putting on a number of events to help celebrate this joyous time.

Lunar New Year Art Exhibition

The celebrations begin on Tuesday 1st February with locals encouraged to explore their inner artist at this COVID safe, virtual event.

In celebration of The Year of the Tiger, Ku-ring-gai Art Centre has invited budding artists to create their best tiger artwork to be displayed in an online exhibition. Each artwork has been created with a dedication to a loved one and to celebrate a good year ahead.

The virtual exhibition can be viewed online here until 5:00pm Monday 28th February 2022. Well done to everyone that entered their artwork!

Lunar New Year at the Wildflower Garden

Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden in St Ives is also getting in on the Lunar New Year action with a week of Chinese New Year themed Nature Play programs, running on Tuesday 1st, Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd February between 10:00am – 11:30am.

The Nature Play programs are nature-themed activities designed to develop curious minds and playful spirits, and this week will include Chinese New Year themed activities involving lanterns, games and a traditional treat.

Lunar New Year Food Market

A lot of people look forward to the delicious food associated with Lunar New Year and this year you’ll be overwhelmed with choice at the Ku-ring-gai Lunar New Year Food Market held at St Ives Village Green.
