That Great Market Returns To Lindfield This Weekend

Written by Olivia Esveld
If you’re looking for something fun and relaxing to do with the family or friends this weekend, then we have good news! A classic event is making a grand return to the North Shore, marking its fifth year of business in the area. We are of course talking about The Great Market in Lindfield.

Like many other businesses during this time, That Great Market (TGM) was forced to adapt to the changes happening around the world, taking their world of locally crafted stalls into the virtual sphere.

Launching That Great Marketplace on their website after being forced to shut down their monthly markets earlier this year at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, TGM was able to support their wonderful stallholders during uncertain times by creating a virtual market to connect customers and featured small businesses online.

“We wanted to create a space where people could connect with these struggling little Aussie businesses in such a difficult time,” said the Operators of That Great Market, Lou Braithwaite and Mike Solomons.

“For a lot of stallholders, this is their main source of income so when all the markets closed we wanted to find ways to help them and this seemed like something useful we could make happen. We received a great response from the community.”

But for those who have missed physically getting together with the community to browse through the selection of quality products, like homewares, fashion, jewellery and art, the sounds of live music playing through the chatter of excited customers or the taste of the delicious gourmet foods on offer, we have some very exciting news!

That Great Market has announced their reopening date and will be heading back to Lindfield as early as this weekend, Sunday 19th July. And by the sounds of things, they could not be more excited about it.

“We are very excited,” Lou and Mike exclaimed. “Markets are our favourite places to be and it’s been a long time since we have seen our market family and the lovely visitors that make our market have such a wonderful, relaxed vibe.”

Returning to their usual location at East Lindfield Community Hall and gardens, TGM will be open to the public from 9am until 2pm with fun for the whole family.

Whether you’re after unique pieces of jewellery to add to your collection from Shavelle Jewellery by MLS, naturally handcrafted skincare products from artisan brand Grove Skincare, a treat for your furry friend from Choppa Chops Gourmet Pet Bakery, or a mouth-watering sweet treat for yourself from The French Counter, this month’s stallholders have something on offer for everyone.

“We have lots of new faces joining us along with many of our regular favourites, all bringing their amazing and unique products and produce,” they added. “We will of course have our live music and we have our resident magician joining us. There’ll be plenty of food and refreshments too.”

And of course you can visit the markets with complete peace of mind knowing that That Great Market is registered as a COVID Safe Business with the New South Wales Government.

“We have put in place a COVID safety plan. This includes signage and ground markings to remind people to socially distance and follow good hygiene practices,” the pair explained.

Hand sanitiser will be available for use and numbers will also be monitored to ensure that they are compliant with current restrictions at all times, with the operators saying that they “will be doing everything that we can to keep our stall holders, staff and the community safe”.

If you don’t have plans yet for this Sunday, why not pop on by That Great Market in Lindfield! It’s just one of the many fun and family friendly activities on offer here in the beautiful North Shore.
