Is there really anything better than sinking your teeth into a big, juicy burger? Even if you’re a non-meat eater, you’ve got to admit that even the veggie patty options out there make a humble burger one of the most enjoyable meals that are sure to satisfy your cravings each and every time.
So you can imagine our excitement when we learnt that today, August 27th, is none other than International Burger Day – making what would usually be an average winter’s day one of the best days of the year! (Not to mention it follows International Dog Day on August 26th… We should petition for this week to be labelled the best week of the whole year really!)
But where can you find the best burgers near you? In celebration of this momentous day, we decided to put our burger-loving thinking caps on and put together a list of places that you can get the most mouthwatering burgers right here on the Upper North Shore.
Being a real estate agency local to the Upper North Shore for over twenty years, it’s safe to say that we’ve done our fair share of, well, let’s call it research in the burger field across the local suburbs. So trust us when we say, we have a fairly good sense of what makes a top notch burger around here!
Have a look at our top five picks below! Of course this means that you’ll probably have to go and try them out for yourself… It would certainly be rude not to, right? Enjoy!
Location: Shop 1, 9a Railway Avenue Wahroonga
You’re not overwhelmed with burger options here at Evolve, but trust us, you don’t need them with their simple Beef Burger on the menu. And by simple we mean a house made beef patty with bacon, tomato, lettuce, American cheddar, caramelized onion, beetroot, relish and mustard aioli all served on a toasted bun. If you’re feeling game you can even make it a double burger! Or of course, there’s always the Vegan Burger made from pumpkin and lentils sandwiched together with lettuce, cucumber, tomato, beetroot and avocado. Delicious is an understatement!
The Greengate Hotel
Location: Corner of Greengate Rd & Pacific Highway, Killara
There’s something for everyone burger wise at The Greengate Hotel in Killara. Whether you’re after a traditional Angus Beef Burger, a Chicken Schnitty Burger or their vegetarian ‘Shroom burger, this local staple eatery has you covered. We recommend going there on an empty stomach and trying to master the Big Cheesy burger, filled with double the patties, double the bacon, hash browns and of course plenty of cheese. They also have a special on burgers every Thursday for just $12 a pop so keep that in mind when booking in your table!
Slide N Shake
Location: 25 Ralstone Avenue, Belrose
If you’re one of those people that loves to wash your burger down with an indulgent milkshake, then this is the place for you! Slide N Shake is not only renowned for their delicious burgers, but also their large variety of shakes from Cookies N Cream, to Milo, Peanut Butter and more! Their current Burger Of The Month is called the EBB Burger (Everything’s Better With Bacon) so make sure you get down there to try one along with a decadent milkshake!
Location: 1 Redleaf Avenue Wahroonga
Satisfaction is guaranteed at Burger Hounds in Wahroonga. With a wide variety of beef, chicken and vegetarian options on offer as well as a weekly special. You’ll recognize their burgers instantly with their signature fluffy, seeded buns and red cheddar cheese. They’re also known for their creative, weekly burger specials. This week’s one is called ‘Cherry Pie’ featuring cherry coke candied pork, svelte havarti cheese and double pickled house slaw all combined to create a sweet and silky delight!
Northside Burgers, Fish & Chips

If you’re not really into all of the fancy options out there and all you’re after is a traditional cheese burger, then definitely head on down to Northside Burgers, Fish & Chips in Pymble.
