Have you always been in real estate? If no, what’s your background?
No, I haven't, when I first graduated from UTS with a Masters in Business and Administration I started working as a finance broker. I then took a break to raise my children. After that I decided to go into retail as a beauty adviser for Chanel, then for Dior. I came to realise that I really liked working in sales and I found satisfaction in matching customers to the perfect product. Not long after I found myself working for Burberry, it was a very different sales experience as this time I was selling clothes, as opposed to makeup and perfumes. One of the major differences though was that there were “competitions” held, with awards for top sales, etc. For the two years that I worked with Burberry, I was awarded top sales in Australia every month and one month, for all of Asia Pacific.

This competition and the training really helped me develop my sales and customer service skills - how to close a deal and how to make sure the client is looked after even after the sale. Although I loved it, I left to be closer to home so I could spend more time with my children. That’s when I thought that I would try working in real estate. So far, I’m loving it.

Why real estate?
Before working in real estate, I had several experiences of my own, buying and selling real estate. When selling our family home, we were not kept informed throughout the campaign and were given poor advice in the final stages of selling. It motivated me to become an agent and work towards changing this experience for others.

What qualities do you think you need to be a great agent?
Right from the beginning you have to be understanding. I find it so frustrating when people just don’t care! Every single property, no matter how big or small, means something to both the vendor and the purchaser. It’s an emotional process, selling/buying a home. That’s why it is so important to be sympathetic and understanding of what they are all going through. This is all the more emphasised in today’s market. The market is tired, vendors have high expectations, buyers have more choice and want to pay less. We have to understand the emotions everybody is going through and be open, honest and transparent to ensure a positive end experience.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
The people, a lot of people seem to think that real estate is all about the property, the land, but it is as much about the house as it is the people. It’s about communication and bonding with people. In real estate you find yourself learning from your vendors all the time, it’s about so much more than money.

What are three things you couldn’t live without?
1. Makeup. I love the routine of it, starting your day on a new note, a fresh start.
2. Chocolate. Especially after a long, stressful day. It’s funny because I actually have a drawer in the office that everybody calls “Wendy’s Pantry”. It’s open to everybody and it’s stuffed with chocolate!
3.My beautiful family. We have made it through many challenges that life has thrown at us and we have all become so strong, I couldn’t live without them.

Where is your favourite place in the world? Whether it’s your couch at home or a cafe?
Anywhere I can go shopping! We love to travel. My children are very curious. They love to see new cultures and they love to try and understand what is going on in the world. My husband loves the outdoors. Myself, I just like shopping. So anywhere, where these things are available to us all.

Do you have a secret talent? If so what is it?
It’s not really a secret, but as a kid I had a little toy piano at home and I used to play along to the radio. Any time I heard a song I was able to play along with it. I didn’t know any chords or how to play properly, it just came to me. So I suppose that’s a talent, but I haven’t done it for a long time!

What do you love most about MB?
Most definitely the people! Everybody here is so talented and we have amazing mentors. We are in great company and we learn from each other everyday. It’s also amazing when Matt & Sam bring new people in, they have really good intuition because they always pick out really talented people who fit in perfectly.
